Frequently Asked Questions
What is AR Shiip?
AR SHIIP partners with local agencies in your area, and provide Medicare certified counselors who are available in-person or over the phone to help discuss your Medicare benefits, coverage, appeals and complaints. Medicare is a Health insurance Program for people aged 65 or older, people under the age of 65 with certain disabilities, and people of all ages with end-stage renal disease (permenant kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant).
Part B penalty
When you apply for Medicare, you can sign up for Parts A & B. You must pay a premium for (Part B). It you decide to enroll in (Part B) later on, you may have to pay a monthly late enrollment penalty for as long as you have (Part B) coverage and could have a gap in your Health Coverage. This penalty is generally 10% of the standard premium for each 12-month period a person was eligible but didn’t enroll.
When will my Medicare start?
When you are first eligible for Medicare, you have a 7-Month Initial Enrollment Period to sign up for (Part A) and/or (Part B). This will be 3 months before your 65th birthday and 3 months after your 65th birthday. If signed up before you turn 65, your coverage will start the Ist day of your birthday month. If signe up after you turn 65, coverage will start the Ist day of the month after signing up.
What is the difference between Medicare and Medicaid?
Medicare is federal health insurance for people 65 or older, and some people under 65 with certain disabilities or conditions. A federal agency called the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services runs Medicare. Because it’s a federal program, Medicare has set standards for costs and coverage. This means a person’s Medicare coverage will be the same no matter what state they live in.
